Critically Assessing Scientific Evidence in Litigation

We are developing a CPD training course focused on the critical assessment of medical and scientific evidence in clinical negligence litigation.

The course is designed to help medical negligence solicitors ask clearer, more targeted questions of their experts, particularly where published research is relied upon to support individual causation opinions.

It focuses on common methodological problems that arise when population-level evidence is translated into expert reports and legal arguments, and provides a practical framework for identifying and addressing these issues in case preparation and expert instruction.

CPD approval is currently in progress.

Expressions of interest are invited for a pilot cohort, to be delivered in person in Liverpool in May (date to be confirmed) once approval is granted. The pilot will be limited to 10 delegates, with one place per firm, and will be offered free of charge.

The pilot is intended for solicitors who regularly instruct experts or critically evaluate expert evidence in live clinical negligence cases. Delegates will be asked to provide structured feedback to inform refinement of the course prior to wider delivery.
